God has given us some very detailed instructions to follow concerning love and how we are to
love. Love is powerful! Oftentimes we give lip service to love and trivialize its power. Or we abuse its power,
unwittingly creating idols. Think…"I love friend chicken." Or "I love my job!" Or "I love to shop."
So, how do we improve in our love walk with our spouses? Over the next few posts, we’ll share some Spirit-inspired ways in which we can improve our love lives.
#1) If love really will keep us together, then we must know what love is.
1 John 4:16 tells us that God is love. So we see here why love is so powerful.
God is love, and love is powerful because our God is omnipotent! As we discussed in the previous post,
1 Corinthians 13 describes the characteristics of love. "Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is
not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always
trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails!"
How is it that love never fails? Because it derives from an all-powerful God, when
employed, all love can do is triumph. Verus diligo victum totus! So be
